Phase 1 begins

Project: Your Snaps / iisnaps zam (Xhosa) was initiated today at the Raglan Road Multipurpose Centre.

We have decided to split the project up into 3 Phases and involve four institutions. Siyazama Multi Purpose Centre, Raglan Road Multi Purpose Centre, Vukani Multi Purpose Centre and the Centre for Social Development are the four institutions which will be introduced to this project.

Phase one consists of the handing over of some disposable cameras to the leader of the various Multi Purpose Centres. I gave them a crash course on how to use these cameras and they have been sent out to document their individual centres with these cameras. With the images obtained I will be able to acknowledge what they see as important and relevant taking photos of. This relevancy will vary between each centre.

Within the second phase of the project I will start teaching photography with these cameras to the participant of the multi Purpose centres. These range from primary school children to the elderly generation of the Grahamstown community. The last phase will incorporate the people taking pictures on their own without any aid as they have by then been thought to use the cameras and will have complete freedom of documenting what they see as relevant.

This project has been welcomed with great excitement and motivation...

In collaboration with Fuji Film and the Centre for Social Development, Gregor Rohrig has started a capturing initiative: Project: "Your Snaps / iismaps zam"
